The word Reiki is a Japanese word for universal life energy, also known to as Chi (Qi) or Prana. This universal life energy we all possess in full measure. It is the essence of us as well as everything around us. It flows through our body and out our hands and feet, always, as long as we live. This reiki is the healing, life-giving energy that sustains and nourishes all living things. We all have this universal life energy – reiki – flowing through and from us, and true healing is available to each one of us in this Now. There are many wonderful modalities for healing, one does not need Reiki initiations to be a healer.
Reiki is an energy healing modality. It is a subtle field of energy, the essence of life, universal life energy. We experience Reiki by remaining in the moment (in the Now), letting go of thoughts, connecting to our breath, and by acknowledging our feelings. Reiki manifests within us as health, joy, spontaneity, vitality, radiance, an inner knowing, and through direct action.
Reiki is a meditative art. The treatment pattern is simple, yet sophisticated, for it provides a framework for the practitioner to shift into an active state of being – into I Am Presence. This state might also be described as an alpha or theta level of consciousness. Anyone can do this practice. In fact, one’s meditative abilities are enhanced by the natural energetic connection that occurs between two people during treatments. In Reiki healing, you do nothing and achieve everything. Reiki, like many natural healing methods, is a powerful adjunct and sometimes a viable alternative to the chemical/surgical methods developed by the modern, rational mind.
Healing can be a mysterious process. Each person moves in his or her own rhythm. We want to take care to be open, to Allow space for all our successes and failures and also for the successes and failures of others. At times it may appear as if discomfort and pain are continuing in spite of all one’s efforts. In these cases, perhaps some underlying healing process is going on or some deep learning is taking place, temporarily adding tension to the situation. Sometimes it may appear that all discomfort or pain is gone, completely dissolved. At other times it may feel as though we are moving ahead inch by inch, or in a long, slow series of plateaus.
All this, Life itself, is something we freely participate in – the gathering, storing, amplifying, releasing, and dispersing of life force (energy) – our very nature. Through our own great joy and Awareness, effort and discipline, we open to the moment… the eternal Now.
And in that moment, there is only Love, empowerment and healing.
There are 3 levels of Reiki. Reiki I (the first level) centers around self-healing. Anyone curious or interested in this type of work should consider receiving a Reiki I Attunement. Level I Attunement (or empowerment) consists of learning the hand positions and becoming Attuned (turned “on”) to the energy, by a Master/Teacher. Receiving the Attunement and being familiar with the hand positions is all that is needed in order to practice your own self-healing, and even to share direct (hands-on) healing with another, 1-on-1 or in a group healing. It also expands ones ability to hold larger amounts of this Lifeforce energy, and increases the connection to one’s Spiritual (or Higher) Self.
Reiki II consists of receiving an additional Attunement, as well as receiving three power symbols to increase and focus one’s healing abilities. A Reiki II practitioner is also able to perform Distance-Healing – the act of sending Reiki beyond space and time. If becoming Attuned to Reiki I is like turning on a switch to 110 current, then becoming Attuned to Reiki II is similar to boosting it to 220… expanding both one’s ability to hold a greater amount of Chi (Qi) as well as the ability to channel it to others.
Reiki III (Master level) completes the education, as well as the ability to harness even more Chi (Qi). This is accomplished through receiving a final Attunement, as well as instruction for teaching Reiki to others. While Reiki healing can be shared beginning at level I, Reiki Attunements can only be passed to others by a Master/Teacher. Master simply means teacher.
